The Journal of Health Care Law & Policy welcomes submissions from academics, judges, and practitioners on topics related to health law, medicine, and health policy. We meticulously review each manuscript submission through our rigorous editorial process.

Manuscript Requirements

  • Submissions must be complete, final drafts and cannot be authored by students.
  • Length: roughly 5,000-10,000 words (body, excluding footnotes); footnotes should total 1,500-3,500 words depending on the overall paper length.
  • Footnotes must conform to The Bluebook (22nd ed.), with all sentences footnoted (except for limited instances of author opinion/conclusion). Footnotes should not include main arguments, which belong in the body of the paper.
  • Original scholarship addressing health-related issues in the context of law and policy. Topics may include public health, health outcomes, health policies, or healthcare administration.
  • Papers should be in traditional article format or follow the Note/Comment structure
  • All manuscripts undergo review by our Executive Committee.

Student Submissions
Student Notes and Comments are accepted exclusively from current JHCLP editorial staff members, who participate in intensive writing and editing processes.

Publication and Submission Timelines (Annual)

  • Issue 1 (Winter): Submissions accepted until August 1
  • The Online Issue (Spring): Submissions accepted until late August
  • Issue 2 (Late Spring/Early Summer): Submissions accepted until mid-December
