Description

The lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth are uniquely challenged by the intersectionality of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression and socioeconomic status. These youth often experience higher rates of abuse, neglect, depression, suicide, substance abuse and homelessness than their straight counterparts. They are also especially vulnerable when they interact with institutions such as criminal justice, religion, education, health care, child welfare etc. This presentation will focus on the unique challenges LGBTQ youth confront and the proposed public policy solutions to address these concerns.
