The Leadership, Ethics and Democracy (LEAD) Initiative at the University of Maryland School of Law presents
The Profession and the Academy: Addressing Major Changes in Law Practice
Wednesday, April 28, 2010
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
500 West Baltimore Street
Baltimore, MD

In recent years, there have been profound changes at every level of practice. This symposium will bring together leading law professors, scholars, lawyers, and bar leaders to consider:

  • What have been the most significant changes in the legal profession in recent years?
  • Can we generalize about the impact these changes are having on the behavior of lawyers (including ethical behavior)?
  • How should law schools respond to these changes and their implications?

Participants will discuss wide-spread changes in very large law firms; changes in middle-size and small firms (including solo practices); the ways in which these changes are influencing the behavior, including ethical practices, of lawyers; and how law schools might respond to these changes in their curricula, programs, and initiatives.

To ensure we have enough space to accommodate all attendees, please register no later than April 9, 2010.
